European Heritage Open Days this year on Saturday 12th September

So the European Heritage Open Days are upon us again. We will open the doors to our home on Saturday 12th September at 10am and the last tour starts at 4.30pm.

We do this almost every year, as long as we do not have anything in the diary when the dates are announced by NIEA. The Department usually send a couple of their architects to help take the tours, but we also rope in family and friends. Last year we altered the tour slightly to commemorate the death of BD’s great uncle Teddy who was killed at Ypres on the 1st November 1914. This year we will revert to the usual tour of the reception rooms.

We did play with the idea of opening the Walled Garden, but I think it will have to wait till next year. We would like to show what is going on there, but I think by next year when JR has had another season, it will look much better._68D8894 jpg

Over the next few days I’ll be busy baking Brownies. We used to buy in scones, but they were expensive and not very good. My Brownies are hard to beat, unless you have a wheat or nut allergy. Sadly the weather forecast is not great, but the conservatory will be our Coffee Shop. JB and the Game Keeper will bring up our tables and chairs so you will be able to sit down and enjoy our refreshments. BD has been ultra busy making jams and they will obviously be on sale too.

See you Saturday, and don’t forget that we have a little micro climate here in Ballywalter, we are the second driest place in the whole of the island of Ireland. So, if it is raining in Belfast, those clouds might just have dumped all the rain there and on Newtownards before clearing over us!
