Our Metrosideros excelsa, otherwise know as pohutukawa or the New Zealand Christmas tree is in full flower! As you can see it is magnificent from all angles.
It was brought back here by the 3rd Baron Dunleath from his travels in the Antipodes and in family lore it took 60 years for the tree to change from flowering in what would be the summer, but Christmas out there. It’s only flowered once before in the time I’ve been here, but when it does it really is amazing.
